Virtual Numbers

What is a Virtual Number?

So what is the big hubbub about #VirtualNumbers? Not a day goes by that I don’t see an article on the Feedly about Virtual Numbers like it is something new. Well I don’t want to suck all the air out of the room but Virtual Numbers are nothing new. Let me explain.

DID, Direct-In-Dial Numbers, DNIS, Nothing New

What is being touted as the greatest thing since sliced bread is nothing more than a DID number that is no longer controlled by the Local Exchange Carriers. Before Voice Over IP became common place, you had to order these numbers from the phone company and redirecting them was an all day affair.

Now that you have companies like #TampaVoIP as well as many other Internet Telephone Service Providers (ITSP’s) we can provide these numbers to you and redirect them from anywhere at anytime in just a couple of minutes. Not only that, we can provision you a Virtual Number anywhere in the world in just a few moments. Internantional DID’s or Virtual Numbers are just a click away. So with the ability to instantly access and program these numbers we had to give them a new name like Virtual. I don’t know why they call them that as they really are a number but you can virtually redirect them anywhere at anytime.

Common Uses of Virtual Numbers

First, as soon as we port your main number away from the local carrier which is Frontier or Spectrum in #TampaBay to our services, it becomes a Virtual Number. We can direct it anywhere such as an Auto Attendant, Ring Group, Queue, Cell Phone or any other place you wish.Second, many of you already have a private number that rings directly to your extension. This is also a use of a  Virtual Number.Third, say you are a larger organization with several call centers in different time zones. You can redirect the Virtual Number to a different office or call center based on the time of day.Forth, you can use different numbers for different marketing and advertising campaigns so you can track the performance of them. The last example I will give you is recently when Hurricane Michael went through Pensacola, FL, several law firms contacted us to get Virtual Numbers in the Panhandle to help residents with insurance claims. The list of practical uses for Virtual Numbers is endless.
